back to school fair at conexion comunidad on august 11

The Latino Action Group of the DeKalb County Partnership for a Safe Family Environment (DCPSAFE) is joining with Ben Gordon Center and Kishwaukee Community Hospital to present its sixth annual Back to School Fair on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.at Conexion Comunidad, 637 North 11th Street, DeKalb. Free screenings will be available at the event including immunizations by the Community Cares Clinic (please bring child’s record) as well as vision screenings offered by Spex Expressions. Each child must be accompanied by an adult.

Children who attend will receive a book bag and free school supplies on a first come, first serve basis. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade will receive book bags and children in sixth through 12th grade will receive sling back nylon bags while supplies last. Information on community services will be available to parents.

Event sponsors include Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Ben Gordon Center, Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital, and the Latino Resource Center at Northern Illinois University.

Other participating agencies include the Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee (Sycamore Schools), DeKalb County Community Services, DeKalb County Health Department, DeKalb Park District, Family Service Agency, Hauser-Ross Optical, Illinois Department of Employment Security/Illinois workNet, KishHealth SystemBehavioral Health Services, Kishwaukee College, Kishwaukee Community Hospital’s Community Wellness Department, and Kishwaukee Family YMCA.
