MRI
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field and radio frequency pulse to produce detailed images of the internal organs, soft tissues, and bones. Most procedures are noninvasive; however, some require a contrast injection of an agent called Gadolinium. The contrast enables the physician to visualize many different types of tissues, abnormalities, and disease processes.
The result is an image showing details of the structure and function of specific organs and internal body parts including:
- Head and neck—including the brain, pituitary gland, internal auditory canals, orbits, soft tissue neck and the cervical spine (upper spine).
- Body—including the breast, abdomen, pelvis, thoracic (mid spine), and lumbar spine (lower spine).
- Extremities—including the shoulder, hand, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, ankle, foot, and all long bones including tibia/fibula and femur, humerus, and forearm. We also perform MR arthrography exam of extremities.
A closed, 1.5 tesla, 8-channel MRI scanner, produces superior image quality without ionizing radiation, a great benefit to all of our patients.

Outpatient MRI is available by appointment Monday—Saturday by calling the Scheduling Department at 815.748.2975.
Vascular Imaging
Vascular Imaging detects and treats diseases in the blood vessels (arteries and veins) of the body.
MR Angiography (MRA) allows the physician to detect problems with the blood vessels. A contrast agent allows the technologist to acquire real time images of the blood as it moves through the vessels. MRA services offered are Circle of Willis, carotid, renal exam, aorta, lower extremities. We also offer the set of new non-contrast enhanced MRA applications called Inhance.MRI Arthropgraphy
MRI Arthrography diagnoses problems within a joint, including the shoulder, hip and wrist, and uses a contrast agent that is injected into the joint to enhance images of the joint structures and allows the physician to see any abnormalities.
